A striking large-scale French Jacquard-woven tapestry, Chasse à Courre de Detti (The Hunting Party), after Italian painter Cesare Auguste Detti (1847–1914). Attributed to Jules Pansu / Tapisseries d’Halluin, French Flanders, and woven in the Point de Loiselles tradition, circa 1970s–1980s.
The richly detailed composition depicts an aristocratic hunting party in historical costume, with elegantly mounted figures, attendants, richly caparisoned horses and greyhounds set within an expansive pastoral landscape. An elaborate scrolling foliate border surrounds the scene, giving the tapestry the impressive character of an earlier European wall hanging.
The lower field retains the woven inscription “d’après C. Detti” (“after C. Detti”), identifying the source of the composition.
The reverse retains its aged green textile lining and seven period metal suspension rings, individually hand-sewn with heavy thread and evenly positioned for hanging.
A substantial and highly decorative French textile, particularly suited to a library, paneled room, dining room, staircase or traditional European-inspired interior.
