A handsome and increasingly collectible set of three graduated nesting tables attributed to celebrated American industrial designer Russel Wright for Conant Ball, dating to the mid-20th century.
Executed in warm-toned maple, the tables embody Wright’s distinctly American approach to modernism: functional, understated and beautifully proportioned. Each features a clean rectangular top supported by remarkably slender, gently tapered round legs and a shallow apron. When nested, the three tables form a compact architectural composition; separated, they provide three versatile occasional tables of progressively smaller dimensions.
The largest table measures approximately 26" L × 20" W × 24" H. These dimensions and the construction closely correspond with documented examples of Russel Wright nesting tables produced by Conant Ball and associated with his American Modern furniture designs.
The maple displays attractive natural grain and figuring throughout, enhanced by a mellow honey-to-amber patina developed with age. The simplicity of the design allows the character of the wood and the exceptionally graceful proportions of the legs to take center stage.
The set remains in good vintage condition, retaining an appealing period surface. As expected for furniture of this age, the tables show scattered scratches, finish variation, discoloration, small marks and edge wear. These have intentionally not been aggressively refinished, preserving the character and authenticity of the surfaces. Please refer closely to the photographs for condition.
An elegant example of early American modernist furniture, these tables work equally well in a Mid-Century Modern interior or as a warm modernist counterpoint in a traditional or contemporary room.
